Rekordowa VI edycja Programu UŁ „Zdolny uczeń – świetny student”

The University of Lodz "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme is becoming more and more popular among students of high schools year on year. In the academic year 2022/2023, a record number of 230 students from 30 schools from Lodz and the Lodz Voivodeship applied to take part in it.

It should be underlined that in addition to high schools from Lodz, as always cooperating with the University of Lod, two high schools from other large academic centres, i.e. from Warsaw (this year for the second time) and from Poznań (for the first time), have joined the programme. For the first time, the program has been implemented by the University of Lodz Branch in Tomaszów Mazowiecki. The programme was successfully implemented and completed by 175 students at all faculties of the University of Lodz.

The number of students who joined and implemented the programme at individual faculties of the University of Lodz in the academic year 2022/2023:

  1. Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection – 34 participants
  2. Faculty of Chemistry – 26 participants
  3. Faculty of Economics and Sociology – 15 participants
  4. Faculty of Law and Administration – 25 participants
  5. Faculty of Philosophy and History – 18 participants
  6. Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science – 6 participants
  7. Faculty of Philology – 12 participants
  8. Faculty of Management – 7 participants
  9. Faculty of Educational Sciences – 8 participants
  10. Faculty of Physis and Applied Informatics – 1 participant
  11. Faculty of Geopgraphical Sciences – 10 participants
  12. Faculty of International and Political Studies – 11 participants
  13. University of Lodz Branch in Tomaszów Mazowiecki – 2 participants

For the first time, Dr Anetta Gajda – Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz, Dr hab. Andrzej Śmiałkowski – Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of the University of Lodz and Dr Joanna Mikołajczyk – Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz have performed the duties of the faculty coordinators.

All the projects at individual faculties were of a scientific and research nature. The participants of the "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme benefited from individual consultations with academic teachers, as well as from selected classes, seminars, research projects, etc. All the activities were aimed at intellectual and social development of the young people.

I supervised one student as part of the "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme. We implemented a project in the area of business communication. We decided to work specifically on the topic of public relations. After the stage of theoretical investigations, it was time for research – and here the Communications and PR Centre of the University of Lodz turned out very helpful. The student spent two days at the Centre, during which she learnt the secrets of the work of a large office that manages communication and the image of the university – she observed, conducted a number of conversations with individual employees of the office, and had the opportunity to take an active part in the office's activities.

– says Dr Dominika Byczkowska-Owczarek, Assistant Professor from the Department of the Sociology of Culture at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, supervisor of Joanna Barczyńska from the High School No. 26 in Lodz.

Compared to the previous editions, the dynamic development of the "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme should be noted. Undoubtedly, this is due to the attractive and diverse thematic offer, which covers many current issues and the great commitment of teaching and research staff of the University of Lodz.

The ceremonial seminar summarising the 6th edition of the programme was held on 15 and 16 June this year. A record number of 85 graduates of the programme presented their works.
